What should an EV charger commissioning checklist include?

An EV charger commissioning checklist should record, for each charge point: the site and bay, make, model, serial and rating; the supply circuit and protective devices; the earthing arrangement and any PME measure; test readings with units; RCD and DC fault protection; a test charge; connectivity and smart settings; handover to the customer; and signatures.

Last updated . Facts checked on 30 September 2026 against IET: Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 5th edition and IET Wiring Matters: BS 7671:2018+A1 changes, including section 722.

Who uses it

Electricians and commissioning engineers installing commercial, workplace, fleet or car park charge points, one record per charger.

When

As each charge point is installed and tested, before it is energised for customer use, and again if a unit is replaced.

In Integrio

Build it once in the Form Builder (Office User), attach it to projects, and your team fills it in on iOS or Android, offline if needed.

From the field

How do you get the most from a ev charger commissioning checklist?

01

Use one ID everywhere

The bay marking, the back office and this form should share one charge point ID. Otherwise a fault reported on bay 12 gets investigated on the wrong charger.

02

Photograph the rating plate before the cover goes on

Serials and part numbers are hard to read once a unit is mounted and sealed, and you'll need them for every warranty claim.

03

Record the PME decision per charger

On a mixed site some units are indoors and some aren't. Note which earthing measure each unit relies on, so a later visit doesn't have to work it out again.

04

Prove it charges, not just that it's online

A charger can show online and still refuse a vehicle. Finish every record with a real test charge or a simulator test.

Frequently asked questions

What do people ask about the ev charger commissioning checklist?

Ask our team →

Is this EV charger commissioning checklist free?

+

Yes. Use the fields on this page however suits you: print them, put them in a spreadsheet, or build them into Integrio so every charger on every site is recorded the same way.

What does BS 7671 say about PME supplies to EV chargers?

+

Section 722 does not allow a PME supply to a charge point located outdoors, or one that may charge a vehicle outdoors, unless one of the options in regulation 722.411.4.1 is met: a balanced three-phase installation, an earth electrode, a device that detects a PEN fault, or an equivalent device. Check the current edition of BS 7671 and the IET Code of Practice for the full wording.

Do the Smart Charge Points Regulations apply to commercial chargers?

+

They apply to charge points sold in Great Britain for cars and vans, but not to public charge points or rapid charge points of 50 kW or more. Workplace charge points are not treated as public, so they can be in scope. In-scope units need smart functionality, default off-peak charging hours and a randomised delay, and the seller supplies a statement of compliance.

Is Integrio a charge point management system?

+

No. Integrio records the install, the product data and the commissioning for each charger, and supports aftercare with tickets and maintenance visits. Charging sessions, tariffs and OCPP connections stay in your charge point management system.

How do I use this template in Integrio?

+

Build it once in the Integrio Form Builder, which is on the Office User plan (£65 per user per month), and attach it to the charger product so every unit gets the same testing form. Engineers fill it in on the mobile app on the Field Service User plan (£15 per user per month), offline if the car park has no signal.
