What should an installation checklist include?

An installation checklist should confirm, before work starts, that drawings, access, permits, materials and containment are ready; during the job, that equipment, fixings, cabling, isolation, terminations and labelling meet the specification; and at completion, that tests are recorded, the area is clean, deviations are logged, snags are raised and the supervisor has signed it off.

Last updated . Facts checked on 30 September 2026 against BSI: BS EN 50174-1, cabling installation specification and quality assurance.

Who uses it

Installation engineers and site supervisors, per area or per floor, as a quality record for their own work.

When

At the start of each work area, during the install for hidden work such as roof fixings, cable routes and ducts, and at completion before commissioning.

In Integrio

Build it once in the Form Builder (Office User), attach it to projects, and your team fills it in on iOS or Android, offline if needed.

From the field

How do you get the most from a installation checklist?

01

Photograph it before it's covered

Once the panels are down or the trench is backfilled, a photo is the only proof the fixings and cable runs were right. Take one per roof section, per route.

02

Refuse to start an unready area

Missing containment or a locked plant room recorded at 8am is a variation. Discovered at 3pm, it's a lost day on your cost.

03

Log deviations when they happen

Write down the change and who agreed it on the day. At handover nobody remembers the conversation, only the drawing.

04

Hand commissioning a finished area

Don't sign an area complete with open roof sections or missing serials. Commissioning engineers then spend their day installing.

Frequently asked questions

What do people ask about the installation checklist?

Ask our team →

Is this installation checklist template free?

+

Yes. Print it, copy it into a spreadsheet, or set it up in Integrio so each engineer completes it on a phone with photos and a signature.

Can I use it for network and data cabling too?

+

Yes. The workmanship checks cover containment, segregation, bend radius, terminations and labelling, and the completion section takes the tester export. BS EN 50174-1 covers installation specification and quality assurance for IT cabling, and BS 6701 adds UK installation requirements, so check which your specification names.

Does Integrio test or certify installations?

+

No. Use your test instruments and upload their results to the checklist, and issue certificates through your own scheme. Integrio holds the record alongside the photos and sign-off.

How is this different from a commissioning checklist?

+

Installation is about whether the work was fitted correctly. Commissioning, which comes next, tests whether the system works. MCS MIS 3002, for example, treats installation, set to work, commissioning and handover as separate stages of a solar PV job.

How do I use this template in Integrio?

+

Build it in the Integrio Form Builder, which is on the Office User plan (£65 per user per month), and attach it to each area of the project. Engineers fill it in on the Field Service User plan (£15), offline if needed; it syncs when they reconnect.
